IRLToolkit is a good product and for plenty of streamers it is the right one. This page is for the streamers it does not fit — because of the price, the shape of the product, or where the servers are. Here is how to judge an alternative before you move your stream onto it, what the realistic options are, and when you should stay where you are.

Why people go looking

  • The entry price. $129 a month is the cheapest published IRLToolkit plan. If you stream a few hours a week, that is a lot of machine for the hours you actually use.
  • You do not actually need cloud OBS. Plenty of IRL setups only need a reliable relay in front of an OBS that already runs at home. Paying for a hosted OBS you never open is the wrong shape.
  • You want OBS itself, not a dashboard. A managed dashboard is simpler, but it is a layer on top of OBS. If you live in scene collections, filters and plugins, you may want the real interface.
  • Where the servers are. Latency and data residency matter if you and your audience are in Europe.

What to check before you switch

Any alternative worth moving to should answer these without you having to ask:

  • Ingest protocols. SRTLA if you bond several modems (Belabox, Moblin), plus plain SRT and RTMP. Without SRTLA, a bonded setup needs an extra hop you have to run yourself.
  • Automatic scene switching. It has to cut to your BRB scene when the bitrate collapses, and come back on its own. Doing that by hand while walking is not realistic.
  • The caps on each plan. Resolution, framerate and output bitrate. A cheap plan that caps you at 720p is only cheap if 720p is enough for you.
  • The GPU. Dedicated or shared. A shared GPU is where encoding hiccups come from on a busy night.
  • Server locations. Every extra thousand kilometres between your phone and the ingest is latency you feel in chat.
  • Multistreaming. If you go out to two or more platforms at once, check that it is included and to how many destinations.
  • Billing terms. Monthly and cancel-anytime, or an annual commitment you cannot walk away from.

The realistic options

  • Enhanced IRL. Three products bought separately: a relay stream key from €5/month, cloud OBS on a dedicated NVIDIA GPU from €29/month, and a standalone failover relay from €9/month. RTMP, SRT and SRTLA ingest, NOALBS automatic scene switching included on every cloud OBS plan, servers in the European Union, monthly billing. No multistreaming yet, and 1080p60 is the ceiling.
  • Run it yourself. A GPU server with OBS and NOALBS on it. The most flexible option and the cheapest on paper, but you own the setup, the updates and the 3 a.m. failure — and instances with working NVENC are not the cheap end of any cloud.
  • Stay on IRLToolkit. A perfectly reasonable answer when what you need is what it does best. See below.

When IRLToolkit is still the right answer

  • You multistream. 2 concurrent destinations on Standard, 5 on Advanced. Enhanced IRL does not offer multistreaming at all.
  • You need uncapped output. Their Advanced plan lifts the resolution and bitrate caps for 4K or very high-bitrate productions.
  • You want the boring choice. Years in production with a large IRL community around it. Enhanced IRL is newer, even if it is open to everyone now.

Switching without replacing your gear

Whatever you use to get the picture out — a Belabox, Moblin on a phone, OBS on a laptop — stays exactly as it is. Moving means pointing it at a different ingest URL with a different stream key, and putting your platform key on the new side. Your bonded modems and your encoder settings do not care who is on the other end.

What does not travel is what you built inside the hosted OBS: scenes, sources, overlays and browser docks have to be set up again on the new machine. Budget an evening for it, and keep the old service running until the new one has survived a real stream.

What is the best IRLToolkit alternative for a Belabox or a bonded connection?

Whichever one accepts SRTLA directly, so your modems bond at the ingest instead of at an extra hop you have to run. Enhanced IRL takes SRTLA, SRT and RTMP on every plan, including the €5 relay-only key: point Moblin or your Belabox at the relay over SRTLA and you are live.

Is there a free IRLToolkit alternative?

Not really. You can run OBS and NOALBS yourself on a GPU machine, but you pay for the machine and you maintain it. The cheapest hosted option we offer is a €5/month relay key; cloud OBS starts at €29/month.

Can I move from IRLToolkit without changing my encoder?

Yes. Your Belabox, Moblin or local OBS stays as it is — you change the ingest URL and the stream key it publishes to. What you do have to rebuild is the scene collection inside the hosted OBS.
